A Podiatrist is a highly trained professional, specialising in foot care and the treatment of problems affecting the lower limbs. They examine, diagnose, treat, prevent and rehabilitate foot ailments through a range of treatment methods including biomechanical, surgical and more.

With only one pair of feet to last a lifetime, it’s important to take good care of them. Foot health problems can be experienced by anyone, from children to seniors. Podiatrists are often called upon by other physicians and health care professionals for consultation and treatment when foot issues arise.

Podiatry Association of South Africa Nadia Dembskey
President

Nadia Dembskey

Nadia is an experienced practitioner and published author who is committed to fighting foot pain to improve her patients' quality of life and overall health.

A published and respected author in the Podiatry field, Nadia established her own private practise in 2012 in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg. A member of Pain SA, Nadia is committed to fighting foot pain and specialises in laser therapy, trauma, wound healing, surgery and Diabetology.

She currently holds the position of president of the Podiatry Association of South Africa after joining the National Executive Committee in 2011. Before taking on this role she acted as the Northern Branch Chairperson and later as National Executive Secretary. Nadia was also one of the first Podiatrists to receive recognition from her peers and obtained Level 3A PASA Accreditation in 2017.

Nadia boasts a B. Tech. Podiatry (2011) as well as a M. Tech. Podiatry (2019), both from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. Future aspirations include pursuing the development of Podiatry in the trauma and surgical fields in South Africa and enrolling in Post Doctorate studies, starting her PhD.

Vice President

Stuart Alexander

A specialist in advanced diabetic foot care, biomechanics, diagnostic ultrasound and nail surgery, Stuart has run a successful practice for over twenty years.

Having run a successful private practise in Port Elizabeth for over twenty years, Stuart’s passion for podiatry is evident in all that he does. He specialises in advanced diabetic foot care, podiatric biomechanics, diagnostic ultrasound and nail surgery.

As Vice President of PASA, Stuart oversees the implementation and maintenance of social media forums for the Association, including the representation of Podiatry on the public forum, Health 24. Stuart’s vast experience and passion for podiatry has seen him become a mentor for many newly graduated Podiatrists, instilling in them a sense of excitement for their chosen profession.

Stuart obtained his Podiatry degree in 1998 and a Master of Science in Medicine degree in Sports Science at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2013. He was awarded a Fellowship by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine in 2018. An interest in sports medicine drew him into becoming a fully accredited Sports Podiatrist by the South African Sports Medicine Association.

National Treasurer

Erin Dayaram

Erin has a special interest in biomechanics of the foot and ankle, as well as children’s walking abnormalities and has acted as National Treasurer for PASA since 2011.

After obtaining her Podiatry qualification in 2010, Erin began a successful private practice in the south of Gauteng. She has become known for her work in biomechanics of the foot and ankle, as well as children’s walking abnormalities.

Erin was elected as National Treasurer of PASA in 2011 and has continued in this role ever since. During her term PASA has undergone a name change, complete re-brand and taken legal steps to protect the Association’s new logo. Her business acumen has seen her successfully drive the processes required to retain PASA’s status as NPO, whilst efficiently consolidating the Association’s financial matters. She graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree of Technology in Podiatry at the University of Johannesburg.

National Executive Secretary

Lucas Breedt

Lucas is a passionate Podiatrist who aims to develop and improve the profession through clinical research, governance and crucial skills development.

Currently practicing within a multidisciplinary team at the W Sport and Wellness Centre in Centurion, Gauteng, Lucas is passionate about biomechanics, sports medicine, clinical diagnostics and pain management. Always striving for improvement, Lucas aims to develop the Podiatry industry through clinical research, clinical governance and crucial skills development.

Lucas completed his Bachelor’s degree in Podiatry at the University of Johannesburg in 2016. His passion for podiatry has since seen him complete multiple short courses in areas such as musculoskeletal imaging, bio-puncture and needles injection therapy.

Branch Chair: Eastern Cape & Central

Tommeli J Venter

Tommeli is passionate about promoting Podiatry, increasing the scope of the profession and educating people on how its benefits.

With a true passion for helping people, Tommeli found her calling in the profession of Podiatry. She has a special interest in promoting Podiatry by improving its standing with other health professionals. She strives to educate the public in what Podiatry can do for them.

She runs a thriving practice in the town of Bethlehem, in the Eastern Free State. Here she assists her patients in the ongoing management, diagnosis and treatment of various podiatric pathologies. In addition, she runs an outreach program where she teaches grade 1-3 learners about foot health.

Tommeli graduated from the University of Johannesburg in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in Podiatry.

Branch Chair: Gauteng

Hamza Cassim

Hamza has a passion for Podiatry with a specific interest in the diabetic foot care.

After obtaining his Podiatry degree, he furthered his competency by obtaining an advanced wound care qualification. Hamza is an advocate for Podiatry and would like to see the profession advance in South Africa to international standards and recognition. He eagerly guides and supports newly qualified Podiatrists to practice in areas where there is the greatest need.
Branch Chair: Kwa-Zulu Natal

Luke-Atreyu Venketsamy

Luke-Atreyu runs three practices in the KZN region.

He has an interest in the treatment and prevention of diabetic foot pathologies, as well as wound care. He assesses and corrects biomechanical pathologies via force plate technology and 3D scanners. Luke also has a keen interest in surgical procedures, he performs nail and cryo-surgeries. He is currently involved in research on the diabetic population.
